This project comprises a carefully considered side and rear extension to an existing single-storey dwelling. While modest in footprint, the natural fall of the site to the rear allows the extension to read as one and a half storeys, unlocking volume, light and improved spatial proportions throughout the home.

The design responds directly to the brief by rebalancing internal room proportions and creating a generous, light-filled living and dining space that opens seamlessly to the garden. Large areas of glazing, rooflights and full-height openings are strategically positioned to draw daylight deep into the plan, animating the interiors throughout the day and establishing strong visual connections with the landscape beyond.

Level access to the garden is achieved through a subtle reworking of floor levels, ensuring a smooth transition between inside and out. This threshold is further softened by a sheltered intermediate space that encourages year-round use and enhances the sense of openness.

The material palette is deliberately warm and restrained, allowing natural light to define the character of the spaces. Upgrades to the existing dormers complement the new interventions, improving head height, daylight and overall coherence, resulting in a calm, contemporary home shaped by light, proportion and connection to its setting.
